 It's All Over Now.....

The 5th came and went...in a blur. Feedback has been most positive and thanks to all those who sent e-mail testimonials. Numbers were slightly up on last year at 420, but I must admit to being disappointed as I had targeted 500 visitors this year and delivered invitations accordingly. The Masterplan to offer a FREE Catax shuttle bus was well and truly scuppered by the appalling gridlock on Church Hill last Wednesday (and every other day in living memory) and had to be abandoned very early on. I find the approach by Surrey County Council Highways Department to such roadworks quite extraordinary, in that closing Stanstead Road at the same time as traffic lights on the HIll, was always bound to lead to predictable chaos. To then permit the contractors to work part time Monday-Friday with a crew of 2-3 men at any one time is guaranteed to infuriate anyone who has sat in the queue for ages, only to drive past the actual works and see no one there actually working (if essential work is being done off-site why could it not be carried out before digging up the road?)  Add to this chaos the continued flooding after the "Deep Clean" of gullies in Caterham and you could be forgiven for thinking that Surrey Highways have a grudge against Caterham. Relax, I have good news that their vigilance and alertness continues unabated, although some might say misplaced. Within 12 hours of me placing highly dangerous, life threatening and totally illegal banners promoting the exhibition around Caterham the Banner Police were on to me. My apologies to the sponsors who could, by use of their logos on my banners, be cited as accessories before and after the fact in this most heinous of criminal acts. Good to know that such vigourous attention is paid to the really important issues..

My sincere thanks to Cllr Glynnis Whittle for opening the Exhibtion, with some words of encouragement for local business, and to the sponsors, Tandridge District Council, A Better Caterham, Business Link and Ion Design. Thanks, too, to Kate Bellinger for some great photographs of the event.
